What are the differences between  slip rings and rotary joints?

Slip rings and rotary joints are both components used in rotating systems to enable the transfer of signals, power, or fluids between stationary and rotating parts.

Slip rings also known as a rotary electrical joint, is an electromechanical device that allows the transmission of electrical power and signals from a stationary to a rotating structure.

It consists of a stationary part (stator) and a rotating part (rotor), with brushes or contacts that maintain electrical continuity between the two parts.

Slip rings are commonly used in applications such as rotating cameras, radar antennas, wind turbines, and other systems where continuous rotation is required while maintaining electrical connections.

Rotary joint, s a broader term that encompasses a variety of devices used to transfer different types of media or substances (not just electrical signals) between stationary and rotating components.

Rotary joints can transmit not only electrical signals but also fluids (like hydraulic or pneumatic systems), gases, or other medi

The slip ring is mainly used in electrical engineering applications, such as motors, generators, and alternators, while a rotary joint is mainly used in mechanical engineering applications, such as hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and cooling systems.
